Mylar Information

Mylar is a wonderful material to work with, but like anything new it takes a bit of getting used to. The set of photographs below will show you the sequence of work from finishing the design, trimming the Mylar to final completion using Inspiration Mutz 'Twinkle Stars' Christmas set, design no. 5.

All you need to do is lay the Mylar on top of your fabric, holding it in place as tightly as you can with sticky tape, then sew your design out as normal, when finished trim the excess Mylar by tearing gently or if you wish you can trim around the edges with fine scissors.

I hope this inspires you to try it for yourself and if you would like to see more examples of my Mylar work please go to: www.flickr.com/photos/lucyhendersonembroidery/sets/72157627670357026 and then open the sets titled Anita Goodesign, Charming Station, Kenny Kreations and Inspiration Mutz Designs.

For stocks of Anita Goodesign packs, please contact Lords Sewing via the links on the home page, for all others please contact the designers directly, again by using the home page links.

Design finished Mylar sheet still in place, lovely irridescence showing.

Mylar partly trimmed and irridescence completely changed just by moving the camera slightly!

All excess Mylar removed and the Opalescent effects can clearly be seen.

Finished, cut out and with ribbon attached, just look at the shimmer and that was done with a piece of Mylar costing only £0.70. Depending on the size of star you make, you could get up to 30 out of one sheet!!
